Youth Perform Well in Season Opening Competition
Our youth cross country team opened their 2011 season with several outstanding performances at the 22nd Annual CVS Youth Races in Providence, RI, run in conjunction with the CVS Downtown 5K National Championship. This year’s team was our club’s largest entry ever in this event, with close to 60 members participating. Nineteen members finished among the top six in their respective races and nine members had personal records. Personal records were set by Julia Kendall, Jack Cronin in the 5th grade 800 and by Gabby Vandendries, Katie Cronin, Ava Madden, Leah Brams, Zoe Gompers, Lindsey Mogan and Thomas O’Donoghue in their respective 1500 races. Award winners included Shea Brams who won the 3d grade girls’ 400, with Graeleigh Jones and Rose Joyce 2nd & 4th; Serena Jampel was 4th in the 4th grade 800; Julia Kendall was 5th in the 5th grade girls’ 800; Bryson Lipson was 6th in the 5th grade boys’ 800; Michaela Jones and Einat Gavish were 2nd & 5th in the 6th grade girls’ 1500; Daniel O’Donoghue, Michael O’Donoghue and Jacob Jampel were 1-2-3 in the 6th grade boys’ 1500; Gabby Vandendries, Clare Martin and Alexandra Wolf were 1-2-3 in the 7th grade girls’ 1500, Leah Brams and Zoe Gompers were 1st and 3d in the 8th grade girls’ 1500 and Andy Theall and Thomas O’Donoghue were 3rd and 5th in the boys’ 8th grade 1500.
