29 Members Qualify for National Junior Olympics
Our youth “dare to dream” travel team had a tremendous showing at the Region 1 Junior Olympics, held at RPI in Troy, NY, this past weekend, with 29 members qualifying for Nationals in 49 events. The top 5 in each event and top 2 in each multi-event qualified to move on. We had 25 members in the top 3 and we achieved 30 personal records. The National Junior Olympic Championships will be held in Wichita, Kansas from July 26-31.
PRs were set by Graeleigh Jones in the 400-1:31.37; Sabryna Reyes in the 100-15.61; Orenna Brand in the LJ-13’3 3/4″; Einat Gavish in the 3000-12:35.57; Anoush Krafian in the 80H-14.22, 800-2:54.52, and Shot-19′ 9 3/4″; Gabby Vandendries in the 1500-5:25.33 and 800-2:48.33; Emily Quinn in the 100H-17.59, 200H-34.09, 800-2:58.76, LJ-13’5″ and Shot-26’11 3/4″; Rachel Solomon in the Jav-79’3″; Amy Jorgensen in the 100H-17.54; Lindsey Mogan in the 3000-12:59.9; Oljia Rapaic in the 1500-5:28.53; Calvin Perkins in the 800-2:30.96 and 1500-5:15.06; Woojin Kang in the 200-25.34; Tommy Miller in the 200-24.45 and then 23.98; TJ Noonan in discus-114’6″; Daniel O’Donoghue in the 3000-10:54.24 and Michael O’Donoghue in the 3000-10:53.24; Michaela Jones in the 3000-11:37.77; Amanda Pasko in the Hep, 100H-18.02, and 200-30.11.
Top scorers included Anoush Krafian, who won the 11-12 pentathlon, individual hurdles (14.35) and HJ (4’5″); Michael and Daniel O’Donoghue who went 1-2 in the 11-12 3000 and Michael who won the HJ at 4’7″; Michaela Jones who won the 11-12 3000 and Kaitlin McCauley who won the 15-16 3000, Gabby Vandendries, Michaela Jones and Clare Martin who went 1-2-3 in the 11-12 1500, and Amanda Pasko who won the 15-16 Hep and the individual Jav. Other top 3 finishers included Rachel Solomon (2nd in the Jav), TJ Noonan (3rd in the Jav-164-11); Emily Quinn (3rd in the 13-14 pentathlon); Orenna Brand (2nd in the 13-14 LJ), Heather Flokos (2nd in the 200), Moriah Arnold and Amy Jorgesen (2nd and 3rd in the 100H), Alexandra Wolf (4th in the 11-12 400 in 66.84), and Sabrynna Reyes (4th in the 200 and 5th in the 100).
Special congrats to Anoush Krafian who set a Region 1 record in the 80m hurdles with a 14.22.
