2017-2018 WINTER TRACK & FIELD REGISTRATION

Registration of our upcoming Winter Track and Field Program is now open.  All registrations will be done online via family id.

Register online via family id at   https://www.familyid.com/programs/2017-2018-youth-winter-track-program-copy-2

Registrations are limited and will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, but preference will be given those members whose parents are willing and able to coach.  We will limit our 8-9 year old memberships to the first 25 boys and first 25 girls to register.  All 8-9 year olds may ONLY attend on Sundays and Tuesdays.  All other ages (10-14) may attend any session, Sunday through Wednesday – members choose which nights they wish to attend.  There are no attendance requirements, but we do suggest at least twice per week.

We will try to accept as many members as we can, but due to space restrictions (indoor tracks are small and can only safely accommodate a specific number), we will need to limit numbers accordingly.  The other factor influencing numbers is the number of parents who volunteer to coach – the more coaches we have to assist with each night, the more members we can accommodate.  We encourage parents to consider being a coach, even if just for one night per week – we will teach you everything you need to know – no preference experience in the sport or with coaching is necessary.  WE ALSO WELCOME ANY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES WHO MAY WISH TO COACH, ESPECIALLY FORMER YOUTH MEMBERS WHO WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE PROGRAM OR MAY NEED TO FULFILL A COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITMENT.

This year’s program will start on Sunday, December 3 and run through the end of February.  There will be a special parent’s and member’s meeting on December 3, at 5:00, to explain the program and to answer any questions – practice will follow this meeting.

Sessions will be offered on Sundays at 5:00 and Monday through Wednesday at 6:30.  All sessions will be held at the indoor track at the Kennedy Middle School, 655 Lexington Street in Waltham.

General conditioning will be the focus the first few weeks and we will then gradually introduce the various track and field events.  Members will be able to try all events and will then choose the events that they wish to focus on.  Events will include the 55 dash, 55 hurdles, 200, 400, 800, mile, 800 race walk, long jump, shot put & high jump.

2017 CROSS COUNTRY REGISTRATION IS OPEN

OurCROSS COUNTRY PROGRAM will officially begin on Sunday, August 27, at 6:00 p.m. at the outdoor track at Leary Field.  Cross country involves training and racing of distances of 1.1 to 2.4 miles over grass fields and wooded trails and offers outstanding conditioning for all sports.

Practices will be held at the outdoor track, Sunday through Thursday (Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the preferred practice days, but members choose which nights they can attend –  8-10 year olds are encouraged to attend on Sundays, Tuesdays or Thursday so that we can have all younger members training together, which will be more enjoyable and efficient for them).

The main part of the Program runs from August 27 through October 22 – members will then have the opportunity to continue on through November with the Jr. Olympic level races if they choose.

Registrations for our XC Program are now open via familyid(early registration is strongly encouraged – there will be a pre-season conditioning schedule for those who are registered early – 11 year olds on up may start their pre-season next week)
