2018-2019 WINTER YOUTH TRACK AND FIELD

Registration for our Winter Youth Track and Field Program are open.   The program will start on Sunday, December 2.  Early registration is strongly encouraged to ensure a spot in the program - we will accept the first 200 who register.

Register via familyid using this link:.  https://www.familyid.com/waltham-track-club/2018-2019-youth-winter-track-program If you do not yet a family id account, create one first and then register.  Be sure to enter information correctly, especially if you are registering more than one child.  List your child's name (not yours) and be sure that date of births are correct.  Also be sure to scroll all the way down to the bottom of registration page to complete your registration and payment process.  You can use a charge card for payment or a pay pal account if you have one.  Any issues with registration should be directed to familyid help support.

Sessions will be offered on Sundays at 5:00; Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6:30.  Members will choose which of those nights they wish to attend.  EXCEPTION:  All 8-9 year olds will attend on only on Sundays and Tuesdays.  Special Note:  we may need to limit 8-9 year olds to just Sundays, unless we get ample coaches to cover the Tuesday sessions - parents of 8-9 year olds are expected to assist on Sundays or Tuesdays.

All sessions will be held at the Kennedy Middle School indoor track (655 Lexington Street in Waltham).

The first few weeks will focus on general conditioning and development of athletic skills.  More specific sport skills will gradually be introduced.  Members will receive instruction in all basic indoor track events and then be allowed to practice all of the events, eventually choosing the events they prefer to focus on.  Events offered will include:  55 dash, 55 hurdles, 200, 400, 800, mile, race walk, long jump, high jump, and shot put.

There will be at least 3 competitions:  a home meet that we will host on Sunday, Feb. 3; a USATF Development meet on the Wednesday morning during Feb. vacation and the Northeast Classic on March 3.  All members are encouraged to participate in these meets.

Parents are encouraged to become a coach during this program - NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OR KNOWLEDGE IS REQUIRED - WE WILL TEACH YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW VIA CLASSES THAT WE WILL HOST.  The number of participants we will be able to accept will be based on the number of coaches that we have.  Please reply back if you are willing to assist as a coach.  Coaches will select which nights you can assist - you are not expected to attend every session.  We hope to spread coaches throughout the fours nights we offer.  If we do not have ample coaches, then we may need to cancel one of the nights or limit the number of participants or nights that members can attend.  Please reply back if you are able to coach.  I will then contact you as to when our coaching classes will be.
